What is Life Coaching?
Life coaching is there to help people when they need to decide on their personal goals and achieve them. It is a practice that was founded with the aim of assisting individuals to accomplish what they set out for themselves. Life coaches normally make use of many different ways in which they help their patients, it is not often the same procedure used for multiple patients. Although this is a procedure where the coach helps the individuals, the coach is not considered to be a consultant or a therapist. Also, it is said that it has nothing to do with psychological illness.
The history of life coaching says it originally stems from executive coaching and a number of other disciplines, these include PAD (positive adult development), mentoring, sociology, career counseling, as well as other kinds of counseling. The life coach believes that their practice of valuing appraisal, modifying behavior, applying mentoring and discussing setting goals are the techniques to helping their clients achieve what they set out. They will use the appropriate approach, depending on the goals the client wishes to reach in the near future. Seen as everyone has different goals, it is the coach’s job to access the goal and then determine which will be the best way to approach it with ease.
Due to the fact that there is no official standard that the life coaches have to have, or no special degrees or studying they have to obtain, anyone can call themselves a life coach and have clients come to them. Of course if you do this you have to know what you are doing or else you will only have one or two clients and no more than that will be referred to you. There are many training programs as well as certain coaching schools for the people in the life coaching industry, but it is not necessary for one to go through with it if they don’t feel the need to.
There are so many different kinds of coaches available these days, not meaning physical coaches related to playing sports, but coaches that claim to be career coaches, life coaches, personal coaches, transition coaches, parenting coaches, small business coaches, executive coaches, organizational coaches, systemic coaches, corporate coaches and the list goes on. Other newer coaching opportunities may also include coaches for writers, coaches for mothers, and coaches for individuals with Attention Deficit Disorder (also known as ADD). So life coaching plays an important role in the industry as many people do not try their best to reach their goals unless they are pushed by someone such as a life coach.
Many people think that coaching and therapy is the same thing, but this is untrue. The two professions have similarities yes, but they are not the same. Both of them focus only on helping their clients, in whichever way possible and that is what makes them similar. The difference is simple; in order to become a therapist and be good at what you do, you have to study for it. You need no maters degree to be a life coach.
