When Coaching Cricket
When it comes to coaching cricket, there is a lot of work involved, but this is especially true if you are coaching youngsters. It is more difficult to teach the game to a younger group of players than it is to teach adults. They have to understand the game in order to play it well and good coaching takes a lot of practice. You cannot expect your team to win if you practice only once or twice a week, professional cricket players have to practice a lot more than that, and that is why they are where they are today; because of hard work and ultimate dedication.
The coach will have to mentally as well as physically prepare his team for the game. They have to be taught to be effective, to play fairly and to play safely. The coach has to be the positive role model to the team; you cannot expect them to be positive if you are negative. The coach and the players combined make the team, not only the players as without the coach the players would not be a team. They also have to be taught to respect each other, a team cannot be a team and produce team work when there is conflict amongst them.
When cricket season finished and winter is around the corner, the players still have to practice. They cannot commit themselves to too many different sports as they then will not be able to concentrate on them equally and totally devote themselves. Cricket is a competitive sport, but it is also about having fun. There are certain skills one should have in order to play a good game of cricket, but anyone has a chance of being good at it. With lots of practice and a good coach to direct and teach you, there is no reason why you cannot become an excellent cricket player.
Players also have to learn to communicate with each other without really speaking. They should learn to give the other players a chance on the field and not try to steal all the attention for themselves. This is where the coach needs to teach them that, while fielding, you should only go for the ball should it be in your area of fielding. Do not run across the field when you see the ball going towards your teammate. That defeats the whole object of the game and doesn’t give the other players a chance to prove themselves. Be fair when you are playing and if your teammate doesn’t save the ball, so what, let it pass and compliment them on their effort.
Every team has a time when they lose a match, let your team know that it is not the end of the world when this happens. You have to lose some to win some. No doubt it will be a disappointment, but then let them know that they now have to work harder, help them to be determined and be determined with them. A coach that is part of the team is what makes a good cricket team.
